Women’s Center for Kenyan Grandmothers

Kenya Project: Building a Women’s Center for 270 widows and Grandmothers across 4 regions!

We are in our final building phase! However, it is the rainy season and our building is in need of plastering and completion of the upper level which includes the roof. We are thankful to the partnership of the Lott Carey Convention friends and donors to assist in seeing this building completed for our Grandmothers! Asante Sana! Thank you very much!

Micro-lending Project Updates

Update: September 2023 The following Grandmothers shared how they been very successful in businesses such as: Elizabeth in  raising and selling poultry who lost her home due to flooding in the lagoon, she has now relocated the chickens and is living with a relative. Betty is selling used clothing; and Elizabeth is making of Tom Brown, spices, and shito with special designed label ‘Zabeth’. Mary Esi Arthur talked about her pillows and quilt making projects.

Update April 2022 We now have 50 grandmothers involved in our Ghanaian micro-lending program! Let’s learn about one of them:

Elizabeth Aful lost her chickens to the Asian flu during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, she only had 2 birds. Since September of 2021, with donations, she now has 140 chickens and contracts with local restaurants and community members.

Women’s Center Updates

Update: September 2023 The Center is a training facility from which 30 students have graduated so far. We have two instructors. Students participate in hair dressing and sewing. The tailoring program training goes for 6 months, then exams happen to be certified.

There is a need for funds to complete the Center. 3 rooms are completely finished, but the final 10 rooms are unfinished. We need 20 windows, each costing $140 and 8 doors costing $180 each. Donate here to help us complete the Center for our Kenyan team!

Update: April 2022 One half of the Center is completed the other half needs a roof because water damage is causing the other half to deteriorate.

For the part that is completed, the women are able to receive training in tailoring and hairdressing. With those lessons, they are able to have skills for a business, fashion, making clothes, and bags which provides sustainable income for their families.

So far, we have trained more than 55 students since 2020! The majority of those who have graduated have started their own businesses!

Update: 2021 Donations towards the completion of our building in Kenya is still ongoing. Pictures show that half of the Center has been completed. Funds raised go to the completion of the final half.
